When we refer to a cell in an excel formula, the cell reference has the cell’s column letter and row number.

In the first excel version until excel 2003, columns are labelled with letter A until VI (256 columns). After that, from excel 2007 onwards, columns are labelled with letter A until XFD (16,384 columns).
