Power Function in Excel
In this tutorial, you will learn how to use excel power function. This learning is useful if you do number processing in this spreadsheet software. The calculation of excel power function can be done by manually writing the power function in excel or by using POWER formula.
Why We Need to Learn About Excel Power Function?
In doing a calculation and statistical process on numeral data in spreadsheet software, one of the processes that is sometimes used is power function in excel or probably square mostly. This process itself will multiply a digit with the digit itself with the frequency depending on the our desired level input. Meanwhile, square calculation will do the process of self multiplication one time.
This kind of process is useful too in work or business calculation every day. Usually, it is used for business analysis. The example of analysis done with the process is when we want to do forecasting techniques to predict how many products that we can sell by looking at historical data or calculation of Net Present Value (NPV) to calculate the current value of a project or company activity result for considering the profit loss of doing those kinds of thing for the company.
In doing this type of calculation in spreadsheet software to process all of the things mentioned earlier, then we need to know how to use excel power function and also square process. If we often use spreadsheets to save and process numeral data in work or business every day, then the ability to use this calculation is pretty useful to have.
What is Power Function in Excel?
Power function in excel is a function to multiply a number with the number itself once or more times depending on the level we want. In the usage practice, this process can be written manually if you remember the formula well or by using excel POWER function as a simpler way.
How to Excel Power Function?
The following will explain how to use excel power function, which also includes square calculation. The manual writing of this can be done using the help of an up pointed arrow from your keyboard. The formula to be used is POWER that needs the inputs of the digit to be processed and how many level do we want for the process of power function in excel. Square calculation can be done by writing 2 for the level factor input of your calculation.
Using Power Function in Excel Manually

Type equal sign ( = ) in the cell where you want to put the result in

Type digit or cell coordinates where you put the digit to be processed after =. Type up pointed arrow ( ^ ) after that

Type digit or cell coordinates where you put the digit for the level of calculation input (type 2 if you want to do square process)
 Press Enter

The process is done!
Using POWER Function in Excel

Type equal sign ( = ) in the cell where you want to put the result in

Type POWER (can be with large and small letters) and open bracket sign after =

Type digit or cell coordinates where the digit which you want to process is after open bracket sign followed by a comma sign ( , )

Type digit or cell coordinates where the digit for the level of calculation input is after the comma sign (type 2 if you want to do square process)

Type close bracket sign
 Press Enter

The process is done!
Exercise
After you have learned how to use the steps from those two methods, you can practice your understanding in doing those methods through this exercise!
Download the file from the following link and answer the questions. Please download the answer if you have done doing the calculation and sure about the result!

Questions
Read the story in the file and answer the following questions. Use the method from the previously taught steps in the tutorial to answer them (actually NPV in the question can be calculated using NPV formula which is provided in spreadsheets. But because this exercise is to deepen your skill in using a particular type of calculation, you should use that calculation process to do the answers!) What is the NPV of the company project investment?
Does the company need to invest in the project? (If the NPV is positive then the company needs to invest but if it is negative then recommend it not to!)

Additional Note
If you use the level of 1/x for the calculation manually or using formula, then you will get the root calculation of your number
