FLOOR Function in Excel
In this tutorial, you will learn the FLOOR formula in excel. FLOOR function in excel is useful when you want to round a number down to a particular multiplication factor.
Why do We Need to Learn FLOOR Formula in Excel?
Numeric data processing often needs a rounding process, up, down, or normally, to be used as a factor in a calculation process or to change the form of a calculation result. In this matter, the specific rounding down process based on a specific multiplication factor is also often needed in the numeric data processing in a spreadsheet so our numbers will not exceed a particular limit that has been determined before.
For example in our daily job, imagine if we want to get the calculation result for the budget allocation in some of the company’s spending posts or do the analysis of how many product stocks that we must send to fulfill customers’ demand in some selling regions. In those two cases, after we have done the division process and get the result from it, then we might need to do a rounding process based on a multiplication factor so the number can be digested easier and used as an execution reference. In these cases, though, we need a round down process so the results will not exceed the total budget or product stocks that the company has at the moment.
If you need to do the process in many numeric data, then it will be pretty troublesome and take a lot of time to do the round down process. For that matter, you can use the FLOOR function in excel to help in the process.
FLOOR formula in excel can help in a round down process based on the multiplication factor that we want. FLOOR formula in excel is very useful to be learned and understood if we often do numeric data processing in the spreadsheet.
What is FLOOR Function in Excel?
FLOOR function in excel is a function with the usage objective to get the result of a round down process to a number based on a specific multiplication factor. Besides FLOOR formula in excel, there are also some other rounding formulas that you can utilize in the spreadsheet based on the detailed needs of the process.
In general, FLOOR function in excel inputs can be described as follows:
=FLOOR(number, significance)
Note:
number = the digit that you want to round down
significance = the multiplication factor for the reference of the rounding process
How to Use FLOOR Formula in Excel?
The following will explain the step by step of the writing of the FLOOR function in excel. FLOOR formula in excel needs two inputs in its writing, which are the digit to be rounded and the multiplication factor for the result.
Using FLOOR Function in Excel

Type equal sign ( = ) in the cell where you want to put the result in

Type FLOOR (can be with large and small letters) and open bracket sign after =

Type number / cell coordinate where the number which you want to process is after open bracket sign followed by a comma sign ( , )

Type the multiplication factor demanded / cell coordinate where the multiplication factor demanded is

Type close bracket sign
 Type Enter

The process is done!

Additional Notes
If you need to do a roundup process based on multiplication factor, then you can do it by using the CEILING formula that can be learned in another part of the Compute Expert tutorial!
If you need to do a round down process based on the number of decimal digits, then you can do it using the ROUNDDOWN formula. You can also see the tutorial here!
